Relating to the real world
Through research it has become clear that students learn best when the task they are given is authentic, that is, the task is as close to a real-life situation or problem as possible, relevant, complex and linked to professional practice.
Herrington, J., Reeves, T., & Oliver, R. (2006). Authentic Tasks Online: A synergy among learner, task, and technology. Distance Education
The Australian curriculum makes use of this idea and requires teachers to make tasks as authentic or as related to real-life as possible for their students... This is where ICTs come in handy. Students can use and develop their creative knowledge to complete projects in the drama classroom that expand their problem solving skills.
Take a look at the video of a creativity contest entry from a group of Westlake Highschool students. Not only did the students meet their design brief requirements for the competition, but they also used technology in video recording their work in a stop-motion recording program, edited and uploaded their finished product to YouTube!

Like the contest these students were involved in, your child will be developing their creative skills, problem solving skills, collaboration skills and ICT skills using a program called iamcreative.org.uk . This website gives students the opportunity to develop a solution to a design problem linked to a real-life creative industry workplace! I encourage you to take a look at their website...
